Resources for Learning at Home

In an effort to help schools plan for educational continuity while the suspension of in-person learning is in effect, the Colorado Department of Education has curated a list of best practices for remote learning and teaching including free web-based resources to help keep students academically engaged. We recognize that the multitude of resources for remote learning can be overwhelming so we have collected and organized material by content area and grade level that may be useful as educators develop plans for their students. While remote learning through the Internet provides a great deal of flexibility in learning opportunities, educators should also consider utilizing hard copy resources (e.g., packet work, textbooks).

Mini Money Management

Mini Money Management is an app that helps parents and teachers teach children financial literacy and awareness by creating an economy where the child receives a salary, bonuses and overtime and then pays for real-life expenses and activities such as rent, movies, and fines. Children learn to prioritize limited resources with their unlimited desires for activities and products. They very quickly learn that too many fines reduce their ability to pay for what they desire, instilling critical thinking and self motivation. The app was created by a Colorado family who played the game when the children were young. The app is fun and easy to setup and takes little time to implement with impactful, lasting lessons for children. The goal of Mini Money Management is to create financial awareness and instill the importance of being deliberate in decision-making. This resource is free to teachers and offers a 30-day free trial for parents.
